Bus passenger’s praise for ‘mystery hero’
Published: November 30, 2006
A WOMAN who was saved from an aggressive drunk by a mystery bus passenger has contacted the Gazette to thank him.
Jill Pollington, of Elfort Road, Highbury, was on her way home on a number 19 when a man started abusing and taunting her.
Another passenger bravely stepped in to offer her his seat and tell the man to back off, and was repeatedly punched in the face for his trouble.
Afterwards he disappeared into the night - but Ms Pollington has written to the Gazette to tell her story and praise her rescuer.
Ms Pollington, said: “I just wanted to say a very big thank you to the young man that helped me in this nasty situation. It is most reassuring to know that there are some people out there who are chivalrous and gallant.
“Men from the back and the front left their seats to assist. The doors opened at the stop in St Paul’s Road and they managed to throw the man off the bus with some effort.
“The man who helped me stepped off the bus and walked away.
“I just hope that he reads or someone he knows reads the Islington Gazette.
