Man makes heroic rescue in lake

A man is rescued from a watery death thanks to a passerby and tonight the man who risked his own life to save a man trapped in a car as it sank to the bottom of a lake talked to 3TV.
I guess we should all be prepared for anything on Friday the 13th, but Kevin Lamoureaux never could have guessed where a wrong turn in Chandler would take him.
You can’t even see the car resting at the bottom of the murky lake, but it’s thanks to Lamoureaux that a car is all the rescue divers found.
“I don’t know what I was thinking it happened so quick,” he said.
Lamoureaux was supposed to be visiting a friend Friday when he made a wrong turn into a subdivision, then watched the car in front of him drive right into the lake.
“I could see the guy lying down shaking, thought he’s having a seizure,” he said.
He also thought he’d better help. Lamoureaux was right on both accounts, so he swam to the car as it began to sink into the murky depths of the lake.
“When I got there I tried to open the car door, but it was locked and the windows were up,” he said. “He wasn’t responding as I was banging on his window.”
At that point another passerby tossed him a river rock and Lamoureaux broke the rear window, then climbed in the car.
“I jumped back out the window and me and this other guy pulled him out by his shoulder,” he said. “Once we got him on land we asked him and he didn’t know what was going on.”
It turns out Lamoureaux got the worst of it, suffering some nasty cuts to his leg and arm. It was a small price to pay though to save a life.
“I don’t think it’s a hero, I just helped somebody that needed help,” he said. “I know a lot of other people would have done the same thing.”
It turns out the unidentified driver of that car has a history of seizures but he’s expected to be okay.
