A GARDENER was reunited with his Jack Russell puppy after it was snatched through his van window and held to ransom for £250.
The 60-year-old, who refuses to give his name for fear of reprisals, cuddled five-month-old Rosie on Friday after weeks of frantic searching and phone calls.
He said: “I’m over the moon to have Rosie back. I was terrified I’d lost her for good.
“When she was taken away I did everything I could to find her.
“I posted leaflets throughout the area and contacted the police. I was desperate and terrified.”
The culprits picked up one of these leaflets and called the owner. They demanded £250 with for the safe return of his dog.
But when he offered a £50 “no questions asked” deal, they lost interest.
He told the POST: “That’s when the police really helped me out.
“They put the pressure on and before long, a father called me to tell me he wanted to return the dog he had bought his daughter in good faith.”
He added: “I can’t give enough thanks to the Goresbrook Safer Neighbourhood Team, and especially to PC John Ferguson and Sgt Ian Lain, for helping me find Rosie.”
Rosie was snatched in Sedgemore Drive , Dagenham, while her owner was out shopping.
A witness saw two teenagers running off with her into Frizlands Lane at 11am on Saturday, September 23.
