Hero cop saved mum and twins meets Prime Minister

TWO police officers who saved the life of a mother and her two babies in a dramatic rescue will be personally congratulated by the Prime Minister next month.
PC Phil Barrow, 37, and his colleague PC Lynne Davies 31, have been named “National Life Savers” in the annual Vodafone Life Savers Awards.
The awards, now celebrating their fifth year, are designed to honour unsung heroes in the emergency services as well as ordinary members of the public.
The officers saved Amanda Bennett of Swansea and her 18-month-old twins Grace and Rosanna.
Ms Bennett was trying to negotiate a partially flooded road next to the Loughor Estuary on the outskirts of Swansea earlier this year when her car cut out. As she tried to restart the engine everything stopped. The windows were stuck and doors locked.
Icy water started to pour into the car as the tide, unusually high and pushed on by gale-force winds, continued to rise.
Climbing out through a partially open window she climbed on to the bonnet of the car and screamed for help, attracting the attention of people nearby who raised the alarm. PCs Phillip Barrow and Lynne Davies were on the scene within minutes.
A Vodafone spokeswoman said, “Hardly waiting to asses the situation, Phil Barrow ran straight into the water and headed for the car where he could see the two babies trapped in their car seats and Amanda, becoming increasingly frantic as the water continued to rise.
“By the time Pc Barrow reached the car the water was lapping up to the toddlers’ waists.”
Pc Barrow pulled the twins to safety through the open window, while PC Davies carried them through the rising water to safety.
