High School Students Rescue Elderly Man

Three boys are being called heroe’s today. A trip outside last week for a 98-year-old Marshall County man took a scary turn for the worse….until three high school students came to his rescue. KTEN’s Andrea Kurys has the story.
The community is calling them heroes, but the boys say they just did what anyone else would have done in their situation.
Last week, 98-year-old Lloyd Henson went to his backyard shed. While he was in there, he slipped and fell. “I spent about four hours outside, trying to get up and hollered until I was so hoarse I couldn’t holler” Henson said. “I thought maybe some of the boys at school would hear me.”
Just across the street, Britt Moore, Alex Mendoza and Charles Hall were on their way back to school from a parade. Moore and Mendoza say at first, they weren’t sure what they were hearing. “We could both hear a guy yelling, but I just figured he was yelling at his dog or something,” said Moore. “And he got up and ran over to the fence and he said there’s a guy over there that needs help.”
Mendoza said, “So, we started running and then we jumped the fence and the guy was on the ground right there.”
Mr.Henson had been lying on the ground for hours with an injured leg. “We carried him in, like he told me to fix him something to drink, so I fixed him a cup of tea,” said Hall. “And Alex, he went to go get his pills and Brent, he went to go set him down in his chair.”
The students stayed with Mr. Henson until he assured them it was ok to leave. The boys had a police officer come back to the house later that night to check on Mr. Henson.
“He came up to the school on Monday and talked to us and thanked us and gave us a reward,” said Hall. The reward was a ten-dollar bill…it was a thanks for a priceless gesture of kindness.
“They sure saved the day for me” said Henson. “I’ll never forget ‘em.”
Now, school officials say they plan to adopt Mr. Henson as an honorary grandfather…and send someone over to check on him every day.
