Firefighters rescue cats from blaze
Published: September 5, 2006
Three cats are breathing easier after firefighters pulled them from a burning home early yesterday morning.
The blaze broke out at 1427 40 St. S.W. about 5 a.m.
When fire crews arrived, several people had already managed to get to safety but fire crews managed to rescue three cats still inside the home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with preliminary damage estimates pegged at a minimum of $20,000.
One firefighter was injured and had to be taken to hospital.
Officials said the fire appears to have started in an attached storage area and spread into the basement.
