A pet dog has been reunited with her owners more than two years after being stolen from her home.

Staffordshire Bull Terrier Tigan was handed in to Battersea Dogs Home on Sunday after she was found wandering the streets in Vauxhall, south London.

Despite being taken from the family home in Thornton Heath near Croydon, south London, in July 2004, her owners said they never forgot about her.

“We never… stopped hoping we’d get her back some day,” Susan Pittman said.

Mrs Pittman said she spent hours scouring the neighbourhood in an attempt to track down eight-year-old Tigan.

Micro chipped

She also put up appeal posters and went out with the local dog warden but without any success.

But two years later, Tigan was taken to the Battersea rescue centre and, being micro chipped, was scanned and soon reunited with her owners.

Mrs Pittman said: “”At first I thought it was a hoax when Battersea called this morning, but once I realised it was a real call we came straight here.

Mrs Pittman, who arrived at the dogs home within hours of the call, said: “We’re so happy to have our girl back, we just can’t wait to get her home”.
