Lost sheep reunited with lamb

Published: July 17, 2006

A lost sheep which strayed into a garage in Preston has finally been reunited with her lamb.
Staff arrived at Haslam Park Car Sales, in Bristow Avenue, Ashton, on July 1 and found a sheep wandering around the premises.

The sheep, named Clover, was taken to the Preston Animal Centre in Ribbleton Avenue.

Since then, the Department for the Environment, Farming and Rural Affairs and Preston’s RSPCA have been trying to find her owner.

The Evening Post appealed for any information about the sheep’s owners and Clover has since been reunited with her lamb at Bank Hall Farm in Broughton. Sadly, one of her lambs died while she was away.

The sheep’s owner, who did not want to be named, said: “The lamb went straight to its mother and suckled it.

“It had been crying all week. It has been stressed, crying day and night.”

The farmer believed the sheep had been stolen and left somewhere near the garage. He added: “She had travelled through five sets of traffic lights. She did not travel there by herself.”

A spokesman for the RSPCA said: “Clover was absolutely fine while she was here.

“She was out with the goats – quite normal. The owner believed she was stolen. It was quite upsetting to hear one of the lambs died while she was away.”

At the time of the sheep’s registration, she was fitted with an ear tag which allowed DEFRA to trace the owner.
