Paramedic, Steve Ferrant, said: “A motorcyclist, a 42-year-old local man, was in collision with the off-side of a van and ended up going underneath it. His head became wedged between the road and the underside of the vehicle.
“Quick-thinking onlookers went to a nearby garage and got someone to jack up the vehicle and free him. As we assessed the patient, he told us he had been able to feel the weight of the van pressing into his helmet.
“Remarkably we found no apparent injury, but he was complaining of some minor neck pain so we collared and boarded him as a precaution.
“This is yet another example of how important it is for motorcyclists to wear protective gear, particularly helmets. There’s no telling what would have happened if this man had not been wearing his. But as it turned out, he was sitting up within 10 minutes of arriving at hospital.”
Police attended and are investigating the cause of the collision.
