Bomb victim to have miracle baby

Published: July 5, 2006

A Preston woman who survived the London bombings is having a miracle baby.
Camille Scott-Bradshaw, from Ashton, was on the number 30 bus at Tavistock Square when it was ripped apart by a suicide bomber.

The design studio manager was in the capital to view an exhibition with pal Marie Hartley, from Oswaldtwistle, when her world was turned on its head.

Camille, who already has a three-year-old daughter, suffered a perforated ear drum and serious leg injuries.

Colleague Marie, who was sat next to her on the top deck, died of her injuries.

Camille has revealed how the incident on July 7 last year has changed her life and how she does not want to be known as a victim any more.

Speaking to a national newspaper, she said: “When we arrived at Euston at about 9.30am we were so excited about the day ahead.

“When we got off the train we went to the loo to touch up our hair and makeup.

“We thought about going for a coffee but one of us, I can’t remember who, suggested just going straight to Islington. I can’t help thinking that if we’d spent two minutes extra in the loo or gone for that coffee, things would have been so different.”

Instead they boarded the bus - and minutes later the bomb went off, killing 13 people and injuring 110 others.

Four suicide bombers had set off explosions on the Underground and the bus as it travelled towards Islington.

Hasib Hussain, Mohammad Sidique Khan, Germaine Lindsay, and Shehzad Tanweer plus 52 others were killed in the atrocity, which was carried out by Muslim fanatics.

Camille spent three weeks in St Thomas’ Hospital before returning to Preston.

Her injuries to her right buttock were so severe that she was confined to a wheelchair or had to use crutches to help her walk.

She has also suffered from serious ear damage and will have more surgery to try to correct the problems once she has given birth.

And now the brave mum has married her long-term partner James Bradshaw, 29, who she credits with helping her recover.
