Stolen books returned in nick of time – before exams

Published: June 15, 2006

A MOTHER is relieved schoolbooks stolen from a car outside her property have been returned, just weeks before college exams.

Howick resident Agnieszka McAndrew says her daughter’s friend lost all her school books after they were stolen last weekend.

The 15-year-old girl had parked her car on the road after deciding to stay the night at the Sale Street property.

“She’s just got her restricted driver’s licence and this was her first trip from Papatoetoe to Howick.

“On Saturday morning, four cars that were parked on the road were broken into,” Mrs McAndrew says.

“The sad thing was that she’s a fifth former [Year 11] and her school bag was in the back of the car.

“She didn’t lose anything of great value, but because the bag had her school books, all her work up to now was gone.”

But the two girls received information at school on Tuesday indicating the bag had been found.

“A note came through school that someone had found the bag with the person’s number in it, so she can contact them,” daughter Anita McAndrew says. “My friend was quite happy.”

Mrs McAndrew is happy the books were found, adding: “It’s excellent news.”

“She had her wallet and her mobile phone with her but of course the schools books are important, and the text books would cost a lot to replace.”
