Dog Rescued From Junkyard Delivers 10 Pups

Published: June 1, 2006

A local dog with nowhere to go was almost forced to give birth in a Chicagoland junkyard. Lucky for her, a Good Samaritan called the right people just in time.

When the Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation recently received a call about a very pregnant, very abandoned dog, its members wasted no time jumping in a van.

In that Harvey junkyard, executive director Lisa Tingley found a brown Shepherd mix covered in fleas and ticks ready to give birth at any time.

Tingley rescued the dog, later named Clara, and brought her to a veterinary hospital to get checked out. Aside from fleas and ticks, she was also diagnosed as heart worm positive.

But despite her condition, only two days after arriving at the hospital, Clara gave birth to 10 healthy puppies.

“Amazing, that the puppies were so healthy as Clara was living outside with no shelter, food or water for who knows how long,” Tingley said in a release.

Now five weeks old, this adorable litter is up for adoption and looking for good homes.
