Fire-rescue nanny goat has kids
Published: May 23, 2006
A nanny goat which had to be resuscitated by firefighters who rescued hundreds of animals from a barn fire has successfully given birth.
The goat, Vindy, was among more than 400 goats rescued from the fire at New Manor Farm in Charney Bassett, Oxfordshire, earlier this month.
Firefighters had to herd and carry many of the goats to safety over several hours, even giving oxygen to Vindy.
She has since given birth prematurely to female twins.
Ashley Gurr, of Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “One of our firefighters spent some time giving oxygen therapy to the pregnant nanny goat, and we are really pleased she has recovered fully and has managed to successfully give birth to the twins.
“It’s really nice that the firefighter’s patience and hard work has paid off.”
Katy Deman, goat manager at the farm, said: “I want to praise the professionalism and efficiency of the county council fire and rescue service who worked so hard to save our goats.
“A rescue mission involving so many baby animals and pregnant mothers was a particularly emotive experience for all concerned. We are very grateful that so many survived the ordeal.”
