Trapped dog released by firemen

Published: May 22, 2006

A dog which was trapped in an iron gate for almost an hour after chasing a fox has been released by firefighters.

A hacksaw was used to set free Sasha, a 12-year-old female border collie-cross, in Newick, near Uckfield, on Saturday.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “The dog is believed to have picked up the scent of a fox, got excited and tried to pass through the gate.”

Sasha stayed calm while firefighters tried to free her head but, once free, went to find the fox’s scent again.

The gate had to be removed from its hinges before she could be cut free.
