License plates will help cure cancer
Published: May 18, 2006
The Cure Breast Cancer License Plate Initiative, a volunteer, nonprofit group, is pleased to announce that only 200 applications are needed to get the breast cancer license plate on the road fighting breast cancer. The Registry of Motor Vehicles has approved the design, and Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Massachusetts has joined the effort as corporate sponsor.
In 2006, a woman has a 1 in 7 chance of developing breast cancer in her lifetime.
The Cure Breast Cancer license plate will provide much-needed dollars to fund breast cancer research, the key to preventing and curing breast cancer. In order for the plate to be available, the group needs 200 RMV “Special” license plate applications with corresponding checks for $40 payable to the RMV.
The RMV will retain $12 of the $40 special plate fee to manufacture the plate and the remaining $28 will go to breast cancer research. Upon renewal, every two years, the entire $40 special plate fee will go to breast cancer research. The special plate fee is tax deductible and is in addition to the regular registration renewal fee collected by the RMV.
