Pupils win praise after raising cash for charity

SCHOOLCHILDREN have been praised for their efforts in raising thousands of pounds for a cancer charity.

Blackheath High School, Vanbrugh Hill, Blackheath, has been named Cancer Research UK’s School of the Year.

The award reflects pupils’ commitment to organising fundraising events, which in the past year have brought in more than £6,000 for the country’s largest cancer charity.

Children have organised a coffee morning, a carnival and taken part in fun runs.

Headteacher Lisa Laws said: “Cancer is a disease which has touched the lives of so many of our pupils and staff.

“Our reward is the satisfaction of contributing to a very worthy cause.”
