Miracle toddler: Two-year-old survives second storey fall

Published: May 11, 2006

Russell Cross could not believe his eyes as his two-year-old daughter stood up and stared in amazement, mere seconds after falling out of a second storey window.

“I was just washing my car when I saw her fall from the living room window and I just thought, ‘please, please say that did not just happen,’” he said.

Cross’ daughter Jada was playing against the living room window of her 1142 Martindale Blvd. N.E. home when the bug screen fixed to the opening gave way, allowing the two-year-old to plummet three metres, said an admittedly shaken Cross.

But Jada, who reportedly didn’t suffer any serious injuries, was taken to hospital only as a precaution, he said.

What may have saved his young daughter is the fact she landed on her feet, Cross said.

“She’s an acrobat,” he said.

“She landed on her feet, then she tumbled and bumped her head.”

Within seconds of her fall, Jada was walking around and pointing at the window in bewilderment, said Cross.

“She had a bloody lip and she may have a concussion but she’s going to be okay,” he said.
