Liberian Muslim Youths Offer Prayer For A Christian Cleric
Published: May 11, 2006
Recently the National Muslim Students Association of Liberia (NAMSAL) carryout what many Liberians described as “religion without border” when they visited the Catholic Church of Liberia ailing Archbishop, Michael K. Francis to identify with him during his period of illness and graciously prayed for his recuperation.
The students who all appeared worried over the seriousness of the Catholic Prelate offered a special prayer or Dau’ad during their visit and also presented him a card of a sign of their concern for his speedy recovery.
During the students’ visit a prepared statement was read urging the Bishop to have courage, “our assembly here today must claim the attention of all Liberians that men do not buy glory, but work at it; men do not pay for honor, but pave their ways for it righteously by living a decent and noble life”.
The statement further said in the case of Bishop Francis, he loves our country with dignity and humility not only as a religious leader, but a voice against social vices. The group recalled that when Liberia was plunged into a civil crisis by greedy armed men who perpetrated bloodshed, deception and hypocrisy Bishop Francis stood the test of time advocated for peace social justice and total freedom for the people of Liberia.
NAMSAL is the first religious youth group to visit ailing Bishop Francis since his arrival from abroad and is the first group also to offer a prayer for this renowned Liberian Cleric who many described as Liberia’s fearless religious leader.
Meanwhile, sources closed to the ailing Bishop say his health is slowly improving, “the Bishop is however responding to therapy, but the only thing now is he is speechless, we’re praying that one day the Lord will restore his speech”, Amos Morris an instructor of the Lincoln College of Professional Studies, and a staunch Catholic in an interview with the Liberian Times said.
Many of the people who spoke to our Correspondent and are non-Catholics, said they were praying daily for the speedy recovery of Bishop Michael K. Francis, and hope the Lord will answer their call.
