DC Firefighters Rescue 8 People from Fire

A southeast family has been displaced and eight other people were rescued by DC Firefighters early this morning at a southeast apartment fire.

Just before 6:00 AM on Tuesday April 19th, units from the District of Columbia Fire Department were dispatched to the 300 block of Livingston Terrace, SE for a reported building fire with people trapped.

Units arrived on the scene and reported heavy smoke and fire showing from the second floor of a three-story apartment building with people hanging out of their windows calling for help.

According to Alan Etter, Public Information Officer for DC Fire, as firefighters were making an aggressive attack on the fire from the inside, firefighters from Truck Company 8 and 16 were removing people from several second floor windows, a total of eight people were rescued by DC Firefighters. Two of the eight people rescued were treated on the scene by DC Fire/EMS units for minor smoke inhalations.

There were no other injuries reported and firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 10 minutes.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation
