Cat survives lightning strike

Published: April 19, 2006

Though he lost his favorite resting place, Shadow the cat was unscathed by a bolt of lighting that damaged a tree and knocked his owner to the ground.

The strike occurred Sunday night as Liz Fulton stepped onto the porch at 3105 Gregory Drive to check the yard for the cat, which likes to nestle up against the tree and in some bushes nearby.

Fulton was knocked down by the strike — which occurred 10 feet from the porch — but expected the worst for Shadow. “We were certain we would find his toasted little body out in the bushes and we just didn’t want to tell the kids,” Fulton said. But as emergency crews surveyed the damage sometime later, “the cat just waltzed up the lawn and appeared at the door as though nothing had happened.”
