5th Graders Meet Dog They Helped Save

Published: April 18, 2006

Fifth-graders at the Peshtigo Elementary Learning Center are gratified after they got to meet the dog that they helped save.

The two-year-old dog, named Princess Cassy, was found last fall near Crivitz with a gunshot wound.

The class unofficially adopted the dog, raising more than $500 to help pay for its operation.

Nancy Dechert of the Menominee Animal Shelter brought the dog by the classroom this week, showing kids x-rays of the gunshot wound and letting them pet the dog.

Dechert says it looks as though someone was trying to shoot the dog, but Cassy’s operations are over.

Cassy is being put up for adoption.
