Neighbor Rescues 2-Year-Old From Lake
Published: April 17, 2006
A Connecticut woman is credited with rescuing a missing toddler from a lake just in the nick of time.
The 2-year-old wandered off while his father was watching his baby sister. When the father realized the boy was gone, he called his wife, who was at work, and his father-in-law, who called police.
Meanwhile, a neighbor heard screams from a nearby lake and found the boy floating about 25 feet from shore. She rescued the child, who was treated for hypothermia at a New London hospital.
The state has since taken temporary custody of the children, who an official said were living in “deplorable” conditions. The 23-year-old father said he agrees with the decision — and expressed regret for the “stupidest thing” he’s ever done. He and his wife are cleaning up the property.
The woman who rescued the toddler has not been identified.
