Girls donate locks on live TV

Published: April 15, 2006

Four Chandler girls ages 6-12 will be guests on the Fox 10 morning newscast Wednesday, where they will have much of their hair cut off live on the air to promote awareness of the non-profit group Locks of Love.

The group takes human hair to make wigs and hairpieces for cancer patients and others 18 and younger who have lost their hair for medical reasons.

Troy Hansen, father of one of the girls, said they have been growing their hair for several years to prepare. Locks of Love needs a minimum of 10 inches of growth for a donation.

Hansen said the girls are making their donation on television to encourage others to support the non-profit. Their segment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.

One of the donors, Reegan Lamb, 6, is a juvenile diabetic who was diagnosed at age 2. Hansen said Lamb’s disease has spurred her family to become involved in causes like this to help other people.

The other girls are Carlie Hansen, 12, Mikayla Neal, 9, and Mary Strong, 8.
