Soldier’s Letters Returned To Widow
Published: April 13, 2006
A packet of correspondence from a World War II-era soldier that was found at a thrift store has been returned to the soldier’s widow.
A story in the Benton County Daily Record newspaper last week, described the letters and postcards that were found at Helping Hands Inc. and said the store manager was eager to get the letters back where they belong.
The letters were written by Paul Berry when he was stationed in Korea in the months after World War II. Tuesday, 88-year-old Hazel Berry claimed the letters written by her husband, who died 13 years ago.
Hazel Berry said the content of the letters reflected her husband’s sentiments about his time overseas. She says Paul Berry hated Army life in Korea.
