Pet dog Max is reunited with owner

MAX, a rare purebred French Mastiff, who disappeared from his Mahooz home has been found and reunited with his owner.
A delighted Steve Green picked up his three-year-old pet from the Isa Town home of a Bahraini student.
Max, reputedly one of only four French Mastiffs in Bahrain, vanished on March 11 from the Englishman’s home.
Mr Green appealed for help through the GDN on Saturday (March 18) and within hours a teacher rang, saying he had seen the dog with one of his pupils.
“I received a call on Saturday morning from this teacher, who told me that he knew where my dog was,” said Mr Green.
“He said that he spoke to his student and his parents and that they had to give Max back to me. I called the pupil and made arrangements to go to their home on Saturday afternoon.”
The student, who did not want to be named, helped rescue Max from a group of people chasing him in Mahooz, so they could use him in illegal dog fights.
“A few people were running after the dog, because they said he looked quite mean and would be good for this dogfight they were planning against a pit bull,” said Bahraini classmate Ahmed Al Ali.
“The dog ran up to us and since I have five dogs of my own, I knew this dog was special because you don’t see dogs like him around Bahrain.
“I petted it and found that it was very friendly and told them that the dog was mine and to leave us alone.”
Ahmed said that his friend liked the dog and offered BD20 for it.
“I told him he could take it for free because it wasn’t my dog anyway, but he insisted,” he said.
“I visited Max everyday at his house and everybody, even his parents, just loved him because he’s such a nice dog.” Mr Green said that he was relieved the youngsters had rescued Max.
“The student, who was sad to see Max go, did not want to take any money from me, but I forced him,” said Mr Green.
“I’m very thankful that Max was looked after very well. I was very lucky. “I am also very thankful to those who came forward to help me.
“Since the GDN article, I have been getting a huge number of calls from people telling me that they hope I would soon find Max.”
As for Max?
He won’t be grounded, said Mr Green. “What he will get now is a collar, most definitely!”
