Squaw Valley girl reunited with mother

Published: March 9, 2006

She thought her mother was dead, but on Wednesday a 12-year old Squaw Valley girl and her mom were reunited.

There was a big group hug for Molly Collins at the Fresno airport Wednesday afternoon.

Her mother and two aunts were there with stuffed animals and tears to welcome the 6th grader home.

She’d survived a kidnapping ordeal that lasted six months.

Molly Collins was abducted by her father; who doesn’t have custody but does have a record of abuse. She says he told her she would never see her mother again.

But on Wednesday, she saw first-hand that her mother is alive and well.

The sixth grader was flown back to the central valley after the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children got involved in her case.

She’d been kidnapped by her father while visiting a relative in Washington State. He took her to a house outside Seattle, where she says he hit her and refused to let her call friends or family members in the Central Valley.

Even after six months, Molly was unaware of her mother’s efforts to find her.

She called police up and down the west coast, but says when she called 1-800-THE-LOST, Molly was found.

Child abduction experts say what happened to Molly is a classic case of parental abduction.
