Cat Receives Special Rescue From Fire

Published: March 6, 2006

A northeast Ohio family is thanking firefighters who were able to save its three pets after a house fire destroyed their home on Saturday.

The family members were able to get out of the house safely, but the family pets, two dogs and a cat, were still inside.

Parma Firefighters rescued the dogs and Valentino the cat, who was even given oxygen with a mask. Firefighters are always prepared to revive humans with oxygen masks, but now it looks like even cats can benefit from a breath of fresh air.

Neighbors say firefighters treated Valentino like any other smoke victim.

“Sure, we’ll give oxygen to anybody, said Doug Turner of the Parma Fire Department. “We’re here to save lives.”

All the family members are doing just fine, including those with four legs. The Cleveland Red Cross is helping the family recover from the blaze.
