Oprah’s Angel Network donates $25,000 to Charleston’s Center for Women

Published: February 25, 2006

Oprah’s Angel Network is giving Charleston’s Center for Women some financial support.

Oprah is giving the center $25,000 to help it continue providing Lowcountry women with life counseling and educational programs. Oprah is presenting the grant during her “Live Your Best Life” seminar in Charleston this weekend.

Tamlyn Willard makes delicacies in a unique shop in the Avondale community of Charleston, “Since the first day we opened, I don’t think we’ve ever had a day we haven’t had someone walk in the door. For a small business, that is amazing.”

Her business partner is Kristian French. She makes gourmet pet treats.

It’s a journey both women say was possible because of help from the Center for Women. French says, “When you own your own business, they say you’ll literally have 10 days of bad days and one good day. And those 10 days, you need somebody there for you. They’re a great little shoulder to lean on.”

Jennet Robinson Alterman is the executive director of Center for Women, “We are absolutley delighted to have gotten the attention of Oprah’s Angel Network. And most importantly, be affirmed in what we know is true, that we’re providing what women want in this community.”

The money will go towards educational programs to empower more women like Kristian and Tamlyn who turned their work and sweat into sweet success.
