Missing LaVerkin girl returned safely
Published: February 23, 2006
A LaVerkin girl who was missing for nearly six months was safely returned to her family Tuesday evening.
Sgt. Steve Jarvis, a detective with the LaVerkin Police Department, said the FBI called Tuesday night with the news that Misty Dawn Wilson, 15, was found in Oregon.
Authorities are still searching for Donald David Sperry, 29, who faces federal charges of transportation of a juvenile with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct in connection with the case.
Wilson was last seen Aug. 28, 205, at the home of 16-year-old Josh Barnard’s aunt in LaVerkin. Barnard, who was also reported missing, was found by the LaVerkin Police Department last month. Wilson and Barnard were featured on the Court TV Web site listing of missing children.
Jarvis said Wilson, Barnard and Sperry disappeared in late August from LaVerkin. They allegedly stole a car in Hurricane and ended up near Los Angeles.
The FBI and the LaVerkin Police Department are still investigating the case.
“Based on my experience with missing persons cases several have culminated in suicide, homicide or the person just disappeared for good,” Jarvis said. “This is one of the positive moments in the history of my career.”
Jarvis said authorities are very grateful to have recovered Wilson.
“We can now put her back into a clean, safe environment where she can continue to enjoy life and look forward to a positive future,” he said.
