Making everyone Cinderella

Wondering what to do with that old prom dress, shoes and accessories?
“Since every girl deserves to be a princess at the ball, consider donating those items to the Chouteau Cinderella’s Dream,” Brenda Cunningham, said.
Cunningham, who works for Chouteau Schools, said she borrowed the idea from Pryor who organized a similar program last year to provide deserving girls dresses, shoes and other accessories needed to go to the prom.
“This is our first year to do it. Our principal found a little girl crying because she knew her family could not afford to buy her a dress for the prom this year. She heard the other girls talking about the prom and it made her sad. The principal said we needed to do something to help her and we thought there might be other girls in the same situation, so the Cinderell’s Dream was born,” Cunningham said.
Cunningham and her secretary, Amber Rice, began getting the word out and has already received their first dress.
“It’s beautiful. It’s hot pink. We’re asking for donations of gowns, shoes and accessories. Even if the shoes don’t match, we’ll still take them because they might match another dress,” she said.
Cunningham said Rice has contacted her former college buddies who were in sororities and some have already said they would donate some items,” she said.
Cunningham said she hopes to get someone to help the girls with their make up and hair on the day of the prom which will be on March 31 for the middle school and March 29 for the high school.
“Our plan is to set up a clothing rack in one of the classrooms, have the girls come in one at a time and get what they need. No one will ever know they have been here. It’s going to be great,” Cunningham said.
