Children, Mother Reunited After Hostage Standoff

Four children have been reunited with their mother after being taken away by a SWAT team during a weekend standoff with inmates who escaped from the Cook County Jail.
Three inmates allegedly used Angie Parker’s apartment as a hideout during their escape, NBC5’s Natalie Martinez reported. SWAT team members took the children during the standoff.
Parker said she was thankful to have her children back.
“I prayed so hard, just to hug my babies,” Parker said. “I missed them so much. Anyboy who is a parent out there — just being seperated from your child for a day or two, that’s just torture.”
The children had been staying with their estranged father and grandmother while Parker was cleared by the Department of Children and Family Services. On Thursday, the children, who ranged in age from 2 to 8 years old, recounted their adventures with the police.
“They took us to Merry Donuts,” said Eva, one of Parker’s children. “We got free hot chocolate.”
The children came home to their cat, Jack, as well as balloons, happy faces and much love, Martinez reported. On Friday, Parker said she expected to put some of the children back in school.
Parker also said the she and her children would get some counseling, but the family would spend Thursday watching movies and getting back to normal.
“Every time I hear the wind, or bumps in the house, I get really, really fearful,” Parker said.
