Man reunited with family after year
Published: February 15, 2006
A man who went missing last April has been reunited with his family, police said.
The parents of 27-year-old William Jackson, known as Harry, said they were “over the moon” that their son had been returned to them safe and well.
Fears had been growing for Mr Jackson since he vanished from his East Lothian home on April 21 last year.
His disappearance sparked a massive search, involving police forces from across the UK, such as the Metropolitan Police and the North Wales Constabulary.
But Mr Jackson, who suffered from health problems, was eventually found by his family in Barmouth, North Wales, on Sunday after publicity over the case.
His parents, Tim and Susie Jackson, spoke of their relief. “Naturally we are over the moon that all our prayers have been answered and Harry is home, safe and sound,” they said.
“We are indebted to the police and the National Missing Persons helpline, and we would like to thank our family, friends, the local community and the media for their understanding and support.”
Mr Jackson walked out of the family home in Gullane last April, saying he was going for a walk along the coast. He ate his breakfast as usual, then asked his mother if she loved him.
Family concerns for his well-being increased as the days passed because he needed regular medication. But his parents remained convinced that their son was alive and spent the first months of their retirement carrying out extensive searches for Mr Jackson, who had gone missing before.
They sent out pamphlets, stuck up posters and kept in regular contact with the National Missing Persons helpline in the desperate hope of regaining contact with Mr Jackson.
