Miracle son alive

Published: February 13, 2006

IT IS a miracle six-year-old Torin Peel survived being struck by a car on Saturday, his dad says.

Torin’s father Geoff yesterday said it was an act of God which stopped his son suffering life threatening injuries after being struck at the pedestrian lights at the intersection of LaTrobe Terrace and Kilgour Street about 10.50am.

“We thank God for the miracle of Torin’s survival, and with so few injuries,” he said. [The Miracle Detective: An Investigative Reporter Sets Out to Examine How the Catholic Church Investigates Holy Visions and Discovers His Own Faith]

The Kardinia International College pupil was walking home with his father and five-year-old brother, after watching a Geelong Football Club intraclub practice match, when he was hit.

“We are also grateful to the many people who assisted at the scene. Staff and customers from nearby businesses, along with passers-by, helped with first aid, directing traffic and comforting Torin’s brother Finn,” Mr Peel said.

Torin suffered a broken tibia and abrasions on his face, head and body and is still recovering in Geelong Hospital. He is expected to be laid up with his leg in full cast for six weeks.

Geelong Hospital spokeswoman Amanda Kavanagh said Torin underwent surgery on Saturday after being transported to hospital by ambulance.

Mr Peel yesterday praised the care and professionalism of the ambulance staff and police.

“Our thanks go out to them all, and to everyone else who has offered prayers and support.”
