18,000 mile trip to aid charity

A HUSBAND and wife team have raised more than pounds 6,000 for a Rugby-based charity after completing a gruelling drive from London to Sydney in a classic car.
Robin and Charlotte Morrison, from Gerrards Cross in Buckinghamshire, drove their 1970 Aston Martin almost 18,000 miles through 17 countries on the road trip of a lifetime and raised pounds 6,200 for Practical Action.
The international development charity is based in Bourton on Dunsmore, near Rugby.
The pair joined a group of 12 classic car enthusiasts for the journey overland to Singapore where they shipped their car to Darwin, in Australia’s Northern Territory, before motoring through the outback to the finish line in Sydney.
The trip lasted around three months and took in some of the most spectacular roadside scenery in the world, including the
Karakoram Highway which connects Pakistan with China and the Great Ocean Road in southern Australia.
Practical Action, formerly known as ITDG, works with poor communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America to help them use technology to improve their lives.
Mr Morrison said: “Travelling overland in a classic car is a great way to meet the local people. Each time we stopped a crowd gathered and if you needed anything you could always find someone keen to help.”
