Seal pup returned to sea

Published: January 30, 2006

A SEAL pup was released back in to the wild last week after a two-month battle with ill-health.
The pup, named Pele Pele by the MSPCA, was rescued at Carrick Bay, Rushen, on November 25 following a call from a member of the public.

When he was rescued he had a head cold so severe he couldn’t open his eyes and it was feared he had pneumonia.

The grey seal, now 20-weeks-old, also had an injury to his nose area which had become infected.

MSPCA staff released him back in to the sea at Carrick Bay on Wednesday.

Pele Pele has been fitted with a microchip which will help them monitor his progress as he builds up his muscles and gets used to being in the wild again.
