Youth donates hair

Published: January 18, 2006

A caring little girl, blessed with healthy hair, made a decision five years ago to use her hair to help children who suffer hair loss because of diseases.

Jamie Morton saw a story on television when she was 5 years old about Locks of Love, the organization that accepts donations of human hair to make wigs for children who have lost their hair.

Touched by the story, Jamie decided to make growing hair to donate to Locks of Love her project.

Five years later, Jamie decided her hair was long enough to make a donation. On Dec. 23, her hair was cut at the Great Clips in Blue Ash. She donated 14 inches of her light auburn hair to Locks of Love.

Jamie is a fifth-grade student at Amity Elementary School.

She is the daughter of Venisa and Don Morton, Deer Park.

“She was very diligent about it when she was growing her hair,” said her mother. “Each time I fixed her hair she would remind me not to cut it because she was growing it for Locks of Love.”
