A missing Dripping Springs man who suffers from Alzheimer’s was reunited with his wife Wednesday afternoon.
Austin Police officers found him and his dog parked on the side of Highway 183.
Seventy-four-year-old Granville Odell Hendricks is known as Slim to his family and friends.
His wife Shirley expressed relief about his safe return.
The pair were reunited Wednesday afternoon at a McDonald’s in North Austin.
The search started when Hendricks failed to return Monday from the Dripping Springs Post Office.
All he had with him was a light jacket and his pet poodle named Sugar. Family members called police, posted signs and waited.
Around lunch Wednesday, Austin Police found him in his van out of gas and ran his plates.
They took him to the restaurant where he ate and met up with his wife.
“I didn’t know I was lost til early this morning, I think,” Slim said.
Hendricks is on medication for Alzheimer’s disease. His wife said she wants to continue caring for him at home.
Now, she says she will always go with him when he’s running errands.
