Rescue mission serves holiday meals

The Great Falls Rescue Mission is hosting three Christmas Eve parties for low-income families and adults who may otherwise go hungry this holiday.
The Rescue Mission began preparing food for the feast Wednesday and the staff plans to cook straight through Saturday.
Some 200 to 300 people are expected to attend, said Eric Burger, executive director.
“Anyone in need can come,” Burger said.
The Rescue Mission has offered a Christmas Eve meal every year since it opened in 1963. This year, the mission is hosting three parties.
An adult party is scheduled for 12:15 p.m. at the Rescue Mission at 326 2nd Ave. S. Two family parties are scheduled for 12:15 p.m. and 2 p.m. across the street from the Rescue Mission at the Haven of Hope building, 317 2nd Ave. S.
An adult must accompany all children. Families are encouraged to attend the 2 p.m. dinner.
Ham, scalloped potatoes and an assortment of pies are on Saturday’s menu. Everyone in attendance will also receive a gift, Burger said.
What surprises Burger most about the Christmas Eve meal are the many different faces he sees each year.
“It’s always a new group,” he said. “There is a group that is constantly in crisis, but they are not the majority. The majority are those with a temporary crisis.”
