Man rescues passengers from burning bus

Published: December 21, 2005

A quick-thinking Southern Ontario man is being called a hero after saving passengers from a burning coach bus.

Fire broke out on the rear of the bus as it travelled on the Queen Elizabeth Way near Fort Erie yesterday.

But the driver was apparently unaware of any problem.

Motorist Robert Miskow noticed the flames, pulled his pickup alongside the bus and repeatedly urged the driver to pull over.

Mr. Miskow then helped 10 people off the bus as the flames ripped through it.

The bus, carrying a church group, was heading back to Toronto from a New York shopping trip.

Passenger Debbie Steele says the situation could have been a tragedy if not for Mr. Miskow.

“This guy’s a hero,” Ms. Steele told CTV.

“If it wasn’t for this guy we would all die.”
