Girl, 5, a miracle survivor

Published: December 20, 2005

A five-year-old girl had a miraculous escape after she was hit by a speeding car on a notorious stretch of road, Northern Territory News reports.

Isha Matheson somehow survived the high-impact collision with just minor cuts and abrasions as her parents watched in horror when she somersaulted over the bonnet of a pizza delivery vehicle about 9pm (CST) on Sunday on Bonson Tce, Moulden, in Palmerston.

Her father, James Matheson, who was across the road talking to a neighbour and saw the accident happen along with partner Missy Jackson, scooped the girl up out of the gutter just before the car rolled forward on top of her.

She then lost consciousness and was rushed by ambulance to Royal Darwin Hospital where staff patched her up and checked for any serious injury.

Isha was home with her family on Saturday and is looking forward to the Christmas she almost did not make.

The whole family is delighted to have Isha back and she has promised not to cross the road without her parents again.

The 19-year-old driver of the Toyota Camry admitted to speeding and has been charged with exceeding the speed limit and driving on a public street without due care.
