Dog takes train to find owner
Published: December 19, 2005
A SPANISH dog travelled 20km, apparently by train, to find its way home after its owner went out of town and left it with relatives. Sixty, a four-year-old female who is part greyhound, is a regular on the Barcelona commuter rail network because owner Damaso Torres uses the grid to visit his sister-in-law in a suburb and often takes the dog along.
On December 6, Torres and his girlfriend left Sixty with other relatives in that same town, La Floresta de San Cugat, near Barcelona and set out for Amsterdam. At 3:00 a.m. the next morning they received a cell phone text message from a roommate in Barcelona reporting that Sixty had shown up outside the door.
“All signs are that she took the train,” Torres said.
The dog was not tired or dirty, nor did it show any other signs of having made the trip on foot, he said.
Sixty belongs to a breed often used as a seeing-eye dog because of its keen sense of direction, Efe quoted Torres as saying, without specifying the breed.
