Parents recall their Christmas miracle at parade

Little Jayda Green, 4, liked the mini-trucks at the Bayboro Christmas parade the best, out of all the other floats and attractions.
Both mom and dad still remember going to the local Christmas parades when they were kids.
And Jayda will also remember when she grows up because she was absolutely delighted with the sackful of candies thrown to her during the parade. She carried a sack just like Santa.
Mom Tracey Green said her daughter got more candy thrown her at the Christmas parade than she got for Halloween. But, in addition, Jayda Green also asked Santa for a Bratz doll for Christmas.
For Tracey Green and her husband, Gary, they received their best Christmas present ever around five years ago when they found out she was pregnant.
“We found out we were having a miracle,” Tracey Green said, who wasn’t sure she could have another child at the time. “We found out three days before Christmas.”
The couple is both sad and happy around the holidays. Gary Green almost teared up a little when recalling his childhood Christmases at his grandparents’ house.
“Grandma passed and it was never the same,” said Gary Green, a wistful tone in his voice. He said his grandfather died not long after.
The spirit of Christmas was evident at the parade, said Kathryn Gillenwater.
“I thought it was wonderful,” she said.
And the crowd seemed happy, said Deanna Wyckoff, Gillenwater’s friend.
But no one was more full of the spirit of Christmas than Christopher Winfield, who was just one of Santa’s helpers taking part in the parade. This was Winfield’s first, but not last, time representing Santa at the parade.
Waving to the children lining the route and watching their eyes get big and their jaws drop was Winfield’s favorite part of the parade.
But Winfield didn’t have much time to talk.
With Christmas fast approaching, he has many errands he has to run.
“A Santa’s helper job is never done,” he said.
