The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Brightens Christmas

The Salvation Army’s annual angel tree program has helped supply thousands of needy families with gifts and this week they’re working on last minute preparations before this year’s giveaway.
Hundreds of boxes line the Salvation Army’s warehouse. Next week, they will all be filled with gifts.
“It’s still a little early, we seem to get bombarded on the last week that the Angel Tree is going, which is this week,” said Beth Orser of The Salvation Army.
Through their annual angel tree and adopt-a family programs, more than 1,000 families will receive presents donated by someone who wanted to help. What people give is a sight that would make any child’s eyes open wide. They give balls, bikes, dolls, stockings and other toys.
“This community embraces it, we have had tremendous gifts for these children,” said Orser.
Carrie Kalagher adopted a family and treated their Christmas wish lists like her own children’s.
“Since Christmas is about giving, we really wanted to help another family,” said Kalagher.
It’s that gift of generosity that come Christmas Day will brighten the faces of those who would otherwise have gone without.
And if you’re interested in helping a needy child or elderly person, just stop by the mall and pluck an angel from the tree. Toys will be distributed next Tuesday.
