Del Valle teacher, nurse saved student’s life
Published: December 9, 2005
New life-saving technology in the Del Valle Independent School District is living up to its name.
Last October a teacher and nurse at Smith Elementary used one of the school’s new Automated External Defibrillators to save the life of a student in cardiac arrest.
On Wednesday, school students, teachers and staff gathered to honor the teacher and nurse who came to the rescue.
The experience not only saved the life of the student, it also had a tremendous impact on the teacher.
“It was a life-changing experience. It was awesome to be able to save somebody’s life, especially a student’s,” Smith Elementary teacher Lori Davis said.
Representatives from the American Heart Association and Austin-Travis County EMS were also on hand to honor the teacher and nurse and to celebrate the student’s complete recovery.
