Cat is Rescued after 5 Days in Tree

Published: December 9, 2005

‘Tis the season to trim the tree, but for two electricians armed with a saw and a fish net yesterday’s untrimming saved a cat who had been stuck in a tree for five days in Columbia County.

The Press Enterprise says neighbors first noticed the collarless tabby cat hanging out in a tall hemlock tree Saturday along Locust Street in Bloomsburg.

When the cat didn’t climb down Monday, someone tried to reach the scared kitty with a tree pruner only to have the cat climb higher, about 40 feet into the air.

With frigid temperatures and a snowstorm closing in, police were called and an electrition scaled the tree, cut the narrow branch the cat was clinging to sending the angry, meowing, ball of orange fur plummeting to the the waiting fish net below.

Before the cat could be grabbed and checked by a vet, it escaped through a hole in the net and ran off.
