Lost dog found provides early holiday gift

Published: December 6, 2005

Frisky had been missing for four days. She ran away when 5-year-old Noel Anderson opened the door of his Sutherlin home, but she had always come back before.

Noel’s mother, Yurmaira Anderson, knew where to look for the missing fox terrier — Saving Grace Pet Adoption Center in Winchester.

The Andersons adopted Frisky from the shelter last fall.

“All my animals are from there,” Yurmaira said.

Frisky was the latest of three, joining a cat and a dog at home. The other dog was big, and Yurmaira’s 15-year-old daughter, Andrena, wanted a small dog.

Wednesday Yurmaira and Noel went back to Saving Grace to see if Frisky might be there. They found her alone in a kennel, but when she saw the Andersons, she started jumping.

“Yeah, that’s your dog,” a staff member said.

Noel was screaming with excitement.

At the shelter, Frisky got a microchip for identification, so if she gets away again, she can be scanned and the Andersons will be notified.

But Yurmaira doesn’t think that will be a problem.

“When we opened the door, she didn’t want to go out,” Yurmaira said.

When she got home she lived up to her name, jumping, licking and sniffing everything, Yurmaira said.

And then she fell asleep.

“I’m so glad I found her today,” Yurmaira said.
