Rescue Mission prepares Thanksgiving meals
Published: November 25, 2005
As millions take part in Thanksgiving dinner, there are those less fortunate that are not. But thanks to 200 volunteers, the Rescue Mission in Syracuse was able to make this day a little brighter for over one thousand people. [An American Thanksgiving]
Those volunteers were up early this morning, preparing 200 turkeys, 400 pounds of mashed potatoes, and everything else that goes along with Thanksgiving dinner.
A majority of the people helped by the Rescue Mission, were those not able to leave their homes.
“We’ll serve about a thousand other meals that we’ll take out to the community, the elderly, the homebound, people physically unable to come down here to the Rescue Mission, but still would not have a meal today. And we don’t want anybody to be left out” said Paul LaDolce, Rescue Mission spokesman.
Despite not spending Thanksgiving with their own families, volunteers say they look forward to helping each year.
