John Ryan, 31, of Erie was found Saturday morning a few hundred yards from the boundaries of the Keystone ski resort, where he gone riding alone on Wednesday, said Mike Schmitt, spokesman for Summit County Search and Rescue. [The Illustrated Guide To Snowboarding]
“Whatever he did, he did something right to stay alive these last three days,” Schmitt said. Friends said he was in good condition.
Ryan was reported missing Thursday night after he didn’t show up for work at a pub in Longmont. The pub’s managing partner, Ross Hagen, said a bartender who had joined the search called Saturday morning to let everyone know Ryan had been found alive and in relatively good health.
Rescuers said he may have become disoriented after riding out of bounds, Hagen said.
“As far as his boarding abilities, he’s a pretty decent boarder. I wouldn’t by any stretch consider him an expert backpacker, especially by Colorado standards,” Hagen said. “It’s really unbelievable.” [Basic Essentials Backpacking]
