Kearns’s miracle girl home
Published: November 19, 2005
Former Wallaby skipper Phil Kearns’s 19-month-old daughter is home from hospital.
Andie’s swift recovery from severe internal injuries she suffered when her father ran her over in the family’s driveway has amazed doctors.
Dr Jonny Taitz, a pediatrician at Sydney Children’s Hospital, said: “It’s miraculous, so much so we call her our miracle baby.”
Dr Taitz said Andie was “a tough little girl”.
“If you had asked me on Monday I would have said she would be home in three weeks,” he said.
“On Friday morning, I thought she would be in for the weekend but her blood pressure settled down and we thought she was OK to go home.”
Just before doctors gave Andie the all-clear on Friday, her father said she would be home in time for Christmas. In fact, she was home in time for dinner.
Kearns and his wife, Julie, have stayed at Andie’s bedside since the October 22 accident at their Mosman home.
Yesterday, Kearns and his family left the family home in a Toyota Avensis people mover rather than the Volkswagen Touareg that was involved in the accident four weeks ago.
