“Hoppy” beer prevents cancer

Beer has a bad reputation. It is known for its high calorie count and its ability to cause lapses in judgment. But new research may give the popular alcoholic brew a healthier standing.
Beer hops contain a micronutrient that inhibits cancer-causing enzymes. Xanthohumol was isolated by Oregon State University scientists a decade ago. Since then, labs across the world have been studying the compound. Apparently it inhibits enzymes that cause cancer and helps the body get rid of unhealthy compounds.
Now for the bad news — most beers made today are low on hops and don’t have much xanthohumol.
